ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH:
MONTH OF MAY
The month of May is celebrated as Asian Heritage Month with
the Asian members of our society taking part. The cultural heritage
that Asian members have given to us in past years, as well as their
on-going place in the Kamloops community and Canada are featured.
MULTICULTURALISM DAY: JUNE 27
June 27 is Multiculturalism Day right across Canada, a day to
acknowledge and celebrate the many cultures of our citizens.
Interesting to note is that in Toronto, our largest city, one half
the population was born in another country, and that 140 different
languages and cultures exist there. That over 40% of the citizens of
Vancouver speak Chinese as well as English tells a similar story
about Canadians.
CANADA DAY PROJECTS:
JULY 1
The Kamloops Multicultural Society organizes ethnic food booths and
a stage presentation both of which take place in the City of
Kamloops Riverside Park. This event occurs on July 1st. Monies
raised over and above costs go to the food booth conveners, our
member organizations.
EDUCATION
One goal of our organization is to promote cross-cultural
contact between our members and between our society and the greater
society we call Canada. That there are limits to such cross-cultural
communications must be recognized if we are not to be frustrated by
the persistence of prejudice. A short tutor program explains the
difficulties. See our documentary on
