PRESIDENT’S REPORT (DEL)
Del told of his attempts to have the Asian Heritage month
declaration coincide with Japanese-Canadian events which did not
occur because city councillors had obligations elsewhere. He
arbitrarily decided to forego the city declaration this year
knowing that it would not be appropriate without the presence of
Asian members. at such an event.
He also reported on progress with Ethnic Stage participation
noting that the program is not yet fully booked. The possibility
of a slideshow on a large side screen pointing up city history
to support the bicentennial year is also being considered to
add to the ethnic show between acts. The museum is being
consulted on this later idea.
Paul and Louise reported that the opening Ceremonies are well on
the way. The Rube Band is to come under their wing preceding the
ceremony at stage front as they did last year. Del is to
investigate participation of Lucy Tremblay in the reading of the
Pledge of
Citizenship.
GUESTS:
Three non-member guests were present to petition for a display
booth and two food booths. A German group from Pritchard which
has members throughout our area would like a display tent
(approved) and, eventually membership . Two commercial Food
Booth applicants who had previously been approved by the directors told of
their plans (Mexican and Hungarian).
CANADA DAY COORDINATOR’S PROGRESS REPORT (JOE):
Joe told of a city employee volunteer who has agreed to organize
our KMS display booth (Jacqueline Johnson). The usual Pancake
Breakfast put on by the Brock Lions Club has not been confirmed
as yet but quite certain. The Heritage Railway will likely have
mini-railway rides off the grass area for children. The City is
to supply free bus transportation all day. The Ukrainian group
is to run the beer garden under new City rules.
